Does my spider plant need to be in a pot with a drainage hole in the bottom?

I have a spider plant that I want to re-pot and I bought a clay flower pot to put it in but I was wondering if I put the spider plant in the clay pot, does it need a drainage hole in the bottom? because I heard clay pots absorb some of the water, and also when you plant house plants in clay flower pots is a drainage hole needed?
