Wallstreet?

In the movie Wallstreet with Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas, Bud Fox (Sheen) offers Gordon (Douglas) a bunch of stocks that he can invest into, but Gordon calls them dog stocks. What does it mean when he says that they are "dog" stocks??
