Should NATO Forces switch to 7.62mm instead of 5.56mm?

Nato forces uses both rounds. The 5.56mm is used for infantry rifles and some machine guns while the 7.62mm is used for sniper rifles and machine guns. The SA80 uses the Standard 5.56mm Nato round because the weight of the ammo and the rifle is lighter than a rifle cambered for the 7.62mm round. The fully loaded US 249 SAW which uses the 5.56mm is one pound lighter than the empty 7.62mm round M60.
