Windows Media Player?

I need to download a driver because my WMP will NOT recognize my CD-R drive when I try to make mix cds for myself. It just goes back to supported drives and then tries to connect to the internet, but fails(I don't have the internet, but I'm borrowing a friend's computer). I have Windows XP 2000 and I was wondering what driver should I download. Please be as specific as possible.
